Sarah is a descendant of Fae and can see portals and feel a person's emotions by touching them. Ian falls in love with her in first sight and tries to save her from her stalker by acting like a complete overprotective jerk. Sarah who has only been in one relationship in her whole love (she is in her late 30s) and gets dumped after a year of marriage (20 yrs prior to this story) is completely insecure and gets really excited because Ian, who is this young hottie is smiling at her. It is a completely unrealistic novel and I am not talking about the paranormal part. I don't think any girl should put up with the way Sarah gets treated by both Ian and her ex husband. It's ridiculous. However, it is an enjoyable read and I wouldn't mind reading another daughters of the glen book if I am bored and have some time to kill.
This author is amazing. I love the creativity behind the series! All the characters are amazing and there is great depth to her stories with interesting plot twists.
What an imagination this writer had. What a really good story was weaved here. The way it was all brought together in the end really kept me interested & intrigued. Excellent read. Keep'm coming please.
This book was okay. The characters are poorly developed. They just seem to appear as if they had no lives before we encounter them in the book. There is basically no mention of either the heroine or hero's pasts (and he's 600 years old). The writing is a little simplistic with lots of uses of cliches.
I love fantasy, historical novels and the idea of faeries and the fey. Fun read, I have read book one, and three, and working on the rest. I also try to read books in series, I like that all the books have characters in common so the story lasts longer.
This was a fantastic novel. I love that it had a strong plot in addition to passionate romance. To many times I have read a paranormal romance and found the plot line absolutely laughable, corny and not worth reading. This series of books is excellent (all of them)! Most of the books I have read in the paranormal genre have been vampire romances, these were such a refreshing change for me. I highly recommend all The Daughters of the Glen books.
I love this series by Melissa Mayhue. They are well written without all the unbelievable dialogue and drama you often find these days. Her story is well paced, has great character development, and even includes a little "visit" with some of the characters from her first book in the series. All in all, I think it was very enjoyable and worth the investment.
I liked the first book a bit better but this one is good too and I plan to read the whole series. I had a little trouble believing there was really any chemistry between the couple at the beginning of the book but I can't really put my finger on why. Later on in the story I didn't feel that way anymore and enjoyed it. I recommend this series if you don't mind some faery fantasy in your romance. -)
I'm completely enamored with this series, and Soul of a Mercenary lived up to its predecessor. The h was compelling and her "issues" were intense and heartbreaking, making the HEA so much more satisfying. I loved the H, he was so devoted and had so much faith in the h; i was constantly rooting for him. This book was even darker than the first, with a disturbing twist, but its gritty nature kept me riveted and biting my nails in hope that the h and H would make it out together. Pick this series up, its so underrated. Very much in the same wheelhouse as Linnea Sinclair.
Reya, the proud Reeka leader, is always on the move, desperately trying to avoid coming to terms with a soul-consuming secret she can't bear to share with anyone, even her own sister Tenia. Reya, traveling with her cousin Dana as mercenaries, leaves death and destruction in her wake, hiring out to the highest bidder. One day might find the duo on one side of a battle. The following week, they might be fighting for the opposition.

Tenia and her husband Darvk enlist the aid of Maverk, a formidable Daamen
Trader, asking him to find Reya and bring her home in time for the birth of their child, due in three months. Maverk is quite willing do this for them, for he also worries about Reya.

Tracking her down, Maverk discovers it will be an uphill battle of wills because Reya will not face her family for reasons she refuses to divulge. He, on the other hand, wants to protect this proud warrior and insists on following her until she relents and returns with him for the birth of her sister's child. While fighting over Reya's return, Mara, a young girl who wants to follow in Reya's footsteps, is kidnapped.

Who kidnapped Mara? Does this have anything to do with the is the dark
secret Reya carries? Will Maverk and Reya have a future?

Soul of a Mercenary by Angela Verdenius is a saga of immense proportions and will take considerable time to get through. But for those who take the time, Ms. Verdenius has developed many fascinating characters in a universe bursting with flavor. Reya, an intense, strong-willed Reeka warrior, pits her strength and cunning against Maverk, an equally determined Daamen Trader, constantly clashing over everything. It's a fiery inferno when these strong, powerful personalities finally act on their attraction.

This makes for an intriguing tale all on its own, but I want to warn readers about the disturbing depictions of great evil contained in these pages. There are several parts which deal with scientists and genetically engineered children which I found a bitter pill to swallow. Graphic imagery of cannibalism and desecration of human remains may be too graphic for sensitive readers. However, if you can handle a dark brooding saga, this book is for you. I find the interaction between characters wonderful, as I did with her other story Soul of the Hunter. I want a Daamen Trader to call my own. I love this powerful universe Ms. Angela Verdenius has created.

Gene
reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed
I absolutely love Ms. Burton's Play by Play series, so I was super excited to read this start to a new series! A beautiful veterinarian, a hot cop, his K-9 partner German Shepherd and Emma's 2 dogs as main characters in a story? Yes please! I dove right in and finished it off in a little over a day while on a holiday vacation.

Hope Flames has a much lower heat factor than the Play by Play books, but it was still a great contemporary romance. Emma has just moved back to her hometown to open her own practice but has a painful relationship history that has kept her away from dating for the past few years. She is very surprised at the way she finds herself reacting to Officer Luke McCormack when he comes into the clinic with Boomer, his police dog, who has been injured chasing a suspect.

Luke has a painful history of his own and has vowed to never do the relationship thing again. But both Emma and Luke find themselves drawn to each other, and after a bout of foot-in-mouth syndrome on Luke's end, they agree to go out on a date- as friends of course. There is a lot of "should I or shouldn't I" going through both of their minds as they find themselves enjoying the time they spend together, and once they finally make up their minds, things do heat up. Emma's past makes a reappearance to throw a wrench into things though, leaving her pushing Luke away again.

I absolutely love how integral Boomer, Daisy and Annie are to the story line- my pet is like my child and I love a story where the characters feel the same way. We are introduced to some other characters in this story that I am sure we will be seeing more of in the future, including Luke's brother Logan who is the focus of book 2 Hope Ignites. I found Hope Flames to be a very enjoyable read and, after reading the first chapter that was included at the end of HF, I will definitely be picking up Logan's book when it is available.

Hope Flames A Hope Novel Jaci Burton 9780425259764 Books Reviews

Jaci Burton is one of my favorite authors. The Play-by-Play series is one of my favorite series. I think this series has potential, but it needs some Jaci Burton hot romance. The chemistry between Luke and Emma was a little off. The love scenes were not that steamy either. I knew where the story was going, but there was just something missing. I have already ordered the next in the series, hoping that it will be a little better.
This is the first book in a new series by Jaci Burton. Book takes place in a town called Hope, small town where everyone knows everyone else's business. The characters are very endearing. The couple in this story is Emma, born in Hope and comes back to become the new vet and Luke a local K9 officer who also grew up in the town of Hope. They both have obstacles to overcome to be able to be together and thankfully when love strikes these two are bound to be together. I loved it and definitely recommend it for romance lovers.
I really enjoyed this book. Luke and Emma meet when Luke's police dog, Boomer, got hurt on the job.Emma has just opened her veterinarian office in her hometown. Both characters had commitment issues, but with all that chemistry in the air, they just ended up getting together all the time.
I liked both Luke and Emma, though Emma still had some work to do to put her past behind her. I liked how their relationship progressed and the love scenes were hot. I wouldn't mind being pulled over by a hot cop like Luke. yum. This is the first book of Jaci Burton's that I 've read but it won't be the last.
Beautiful vet meets sexy cop throw in some great dogs, a bunch of robberies, and a blast for the past.....and you get one neck of great book. While I loved it some parts lagged just a little but I will definitely read more of this series.
Like all of Jaci Burton's books I thoroughly enjoyed the first book of her new series, Hope Flames. I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this and couldn't wait to dive in!
The story flows easily, the relationship blossoms beautifully and the characters were likable. I loved Emma and Luke's history and the way there were able to connect and develop a friendship within their budding relationship. Luke is a strong male character who isn't all testosterone and arrogant. He was incredibly likable and came across as a genuinely nice guy despite his being burned by love in the past. Emma has her own demons from her past that she works through throughout the story, but she perseveres and is a sweet and caring veterinarian. Her compassion with her animals and her friendships with the secondary characters made her instantly enjoyable to follow.

I can't wait for the next Hope story, and all of Jaci's other upcoming books!
This book was a mellow read. It was SUPER sweet and very sexy. The steamy moments were great and the sex moments were HOT!
Overall just a easy, sweet mellow read. Not a lot of action, even though our hero, a policeman, is working on a case that could mean the heroine is in danger. This is the reason it didn't get five stars for me. I wanted some more action rather than all the mellow relationship-ness. Especially when the main character is a hot sexy policeman and our heroine is sweet and innocent and left behind a bad relationship.
But, we can't have it all! Still, the story was great. Totally recommend.
I really wanted to like this book, but I agree with others that it is too contrived. Mistakes in their past still control their outlook on life. Things were too easily resolved i.e. catching the bad guy etc. The situation with the ex was not close to being accurate as far as the controlling issues and how she escaped them. There were lots of inaccuracies in re to living in small town Oklahoma and I am certain there is not an area around Grand Lake that is still left undeveloped where they can enjoy themselves outside. Yet, there were moments of really good dialogue and witty commentary between the characters. I left me feeling that if she just had a better editor that could point out these things then the book would have been much better. Its the little things that can make or break a book and there were lots of little things wrong with this.
I usually can overlook the imperfections in a story but this book was the most confusing piece of literature! At the beginning of the book (after the epilogue which should have been a prologue) , the first chapter said "18 months earlier" but it turned out that it was FOUR YEARS LATER!! The timeline wasn't the only aspect of the story that was confusing. Avena would think about memories but you never knew what was going on. It was like the author assumed we would know the background of the memory so she didn't write it into the story. The premise of the story had great potential but it read like a really REALLY rough draft. The author should pull this down and let an editor get a hold of it.

Chasing After Infinity Infinity Series Book 1 eBook L Jayne Reviews

This is my favorite book in the world and I literally fell in love with it. To be quite honest I've never written a review for anything in my life but after reading this book four times because I love it THAT much I felt that I had too. I understand there are a couple of spelling errors but it's REALLY not that big of a deal. Seriously maybe if you looked past the what like 5 errors in this book you could actually read it and love it. I hope L. Jayne writes another book.
My new favorite book it's beautiful it's a great story and I loved it. It as so amazing. I thinking going to reread this book. Great book. Recommend to everyone I know. Beautifully written. Thank you L. Jayne for writing this.
A good story ruined by the spelling errors and the horrendous mistakes in the timeline of the story. Mum dies in May but the funeral is in September? December seemed to go on for 6 months; it was finals, then it was Christmas and then it was break it was all over the place. And the violence that was going on in the school?!!!!
I didnt love it but I might read the next so the characters have a chance to develop
This book is not your typical romance. I thought the games and violence were a bit creepy. Also, the ending wasn't even an ending. I felt this story had so much potential. I really wanted to know more about Adrian's journey to find himself, but the story doesn't even talk about his time in OK.
This book was disappointing. To say the book was boring in the beginning is an understatement. I pushed through and eventually finished but it took skipping words and paragraphs to do so. The middle started to get interesting but not enough for me to be excited about reading it.
Avena and Adrian are an interesting couple to say the least. Neither of them are truly stable and have dysfunctional family lives and are unwillingly drawn to each other. This is not going to be a feel good read...it felt raw and gritty to me. Biggest reason for only 3 stars w as that the story felt unfinished to me (just mho).
My Twisted Drink: A Vampire Romance

In a society where Vampires exist alongside humans without fear, Charlotte is a human who has become renowned for her skill as an exceptional "drink." She works in a club, along side her best friend Charisse, pleasing her customers, vampires from all walks of life. When Charisse drags Charlotte to a local mansion for an interview to be a "personal drink" to a local vampire, Charlotte gets the job, much to her own chagrin. Charlotte then moves into Alexander's mansion and meets Nathan, his servant, who is obviously more than he appears to be at first glance. But what is he? Both Alexander, her new vampire boss, and Nathan are hiding things from her. Nathan's abilities are definitely not human and Alexander's old-fashioned ways keep Charlotte on her toes. Charlotte meets more vampires and other people who exist in this twilight world. Intrigue, love, power plays, suspense, fear and seduction; all of these play out in various scenarios during Charlotte's "relationship" with her new guardian and his servant...but where will it lead to in the end? Only time will tell.

I give "My Twisted Drink" 3 out of 5 stars. If the writing and editing had been better, it would have gotten much higher marks. The story is engaging and enjoyable. I like the world that Ms. Mayer has created. It is very interesting and mysterious. She reveals a little at a time. There are many creatures in it besides vampires and normal humans. However, the book could use some heavy editing. For example, the author has one character's dialogue mixed in the same paragraph with another character's thoughts or actions. It can get very confusing at times. Overall, if you can excuse the confusing dialogue, the book is a very fun read and I recommend it.

3 out of 5 Stars

-Kristin Frasier

complimentary book given for a free review. juliesbookreview.blogspot.com

My Twisted Drink A Vampire Romance eBook JoAnn Mayer Reviews

I thought this story was a well rounded story. It started with a girl struggling to stay afloat that finds herself in a situation that is almost impossible for anyone to pass up. There were some parts that I didn't get the full meaning behind it but it didn't prevent me from enjoying the story. I felt that the pace was great and there was an even amount of all types of emotions. I found myself getting into the story, wanting to see certain things play out or celebrating when certain things did play out.
Mmmm Mmmm Miss Charlotte and Alexander. WOW!! what a way to put a twist on "vampires" and "DRINKS" I for one will never look at the word the same.

Alexander.. WHAT A GROUCH .. but without his bipolar moodswings, I mean, what would this push pull love story even be? Yes, he was so blindly stubborn it hurt, yet he was clearly SHOWING his feelings! I just wanted him to admit his heart from the beginning. Of coarse, we never get what we want!!!

Miss Charlotte had SUCH real emotion. I felt every bit of Love, Jealousy, and lust she felt everytime she felt it. When she cried, laughed, ...... Rushed poor dainty Marie <--a pure bitch that one) ! Miss Charlotte appeared to be a slut, but really only a majorly sexy tease!

I was also taken aback by Adalric.. Boy boy I just want to eat him up!! He just seems like every girls gay best friend.. Except the gay best friend you make out with from the time you brush your teeth in the morning until he takes you to heaven every night ;) He is, by far, one of the most intriguing characters!

If you love Vampire Romances.... you will love this Vampire Romance .. with a Twist )
This book was so long. It seemed like it just went on and on and never progressed. Also, there were a couple of times where the character was obsessing about something she did or said...and I had no idea what she was talking about. I went back to the beginning and reread three chapters trying to figure out where she accidentally had sex with Alexander...never found it. It was also a little weird that she was referred to as his "drink" whenever she met anyone new. What kind of woman would find that appealing? or she was called Miss Charlotte by everyone..even when she was getting down and dirty with them. I would not waste your time on this book. There are too many other good books out there.
I'm really shocked at how much I loved this book! It was a freebie for the kindle, so I picked it up knowing that it met my criteria of paranormal romance. I started reading it randomly and just could not put the darn thing down! I kept expecting the worst (as I've seen with free books before) but the book sucked me in completely. I stayed up late last night to finish it because I had to know how it ended. The characters were so developed and the storyline (while some people probably won't like it) was great for me. There was a great balance of smut to storyline to make this one of my rare 5 star books (something I'd pick up and read again). READ THIS BOOK! Well, okay, it's probably not for everyone, but my smut/paranormal friends READ THIS BOOK! Really.
First of all, I wanted to give this review five stars, believe me I really did. However, there was one small reason why I couldn't and for that I will explain in a bit.
The reason why I loved this book It made me laugh, it made me angry, it made my cry and cry some more, it made me feel! It was odd in some parts and had some situations(sexual) in which I'm not too fond of, but all in all I loved the love story behind it all.

Why only four stars?****spoiler******
In the second half of the book it keeps referring to the first time Alexander and Charlotte sleep together, and it is made to sound very hot! However, upon reading and re-reading the first half of the book, it just isn't there. They don't sleep together, so the second half of the book got frustrating in that sense. It was obviously an omission, but it was a bit of an important one in the story and it made me frustrated that it was missing.
An exquisite collection of mostly American posters. Most are from the last century, with a healthy sampling from WWI and WWII, as well as sampling of rock art, commercial posters, and sports posters. A great strenth of the book is the attention it devotes to the representations and self-representations of women and ethnic minorities. Some of the most powerful pieces in the book are the many protest posters from the 1960s and 1970s. The book offers minimal text to analyze the work; instead concentrating on high quality prints from an excellent and wide-ranging assortment of American posters. A valuable and beautiful fragment of history.
Ben and Ella don't care for each other. Ella thinks he's a snob, pretty boy and he basically thinks she is a slut. I was concerned at first, that this was going to be one of those love/hate romances and I couldn't have been more wrong. I gave this book a five star for so many reasons, but the main ones being it made me feel, it made me cry, it changes me and m perception of those around me and the world. This author touched me with this book in ways that I know I will never be the same again.

I couldn't put this book down, forgoing the things I needed to do, so that I could read Ella and Ben's journey. Their road to happiness is not easy, especially since they both have preconceptions of the other as well as issues of their own to deal with. As in life, however, fate brings them together and they see the other with new eyes and realize that what they thought...what they saw on the outside, was but a glimmer of the layers of who they were.

Ben's focusing on getting into the NHL and he doesn't need or want distractions and Ella has been hurt in the past and she doesn't want to take the risk that it will happen again. They both go into this relationship stressing they want nothing serious but what happens when Cupid steps up to the plate? He shoots that arrow and "love" is in the air.

Ella and Ben's journey to love is so believable and well written. For those of us who read book one in this series we get to revisit Jacob and Skylar, which is an extra bonus which I loved. When I finished this book I was left feeling happy and the very best part? I get to take their journey again, anytime I want. I was given a copy for an honest review and loved it so much i purchased it as well. You will LOVE this book, it is my favorite of this author's to date.

Cross Check A Bayard Hockey Novel edition by Kelly Jamieson Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

3.75 stars -- I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.

I love it when an author surprises me with a character! We didn't really get that great of an impression of Ella in the first book, but I really enjoyed her in this one. I thought she really redeemed herself and getting a look inside her head made me understand her more. Plus we just got to see more of what she's about, you know? I really appreciated her storyline of going off the rails after her friend's suicide, and then having to rein it in and settle down after going on academic probation. I enjoyed how Ms. Jamieson took a hard look at slut-shaming, and while Ella regretted some choices she made in partying/sleeping around, it wasn't all "down with the promiscuous girls" as you often see in some books. Ella really struggled with the labels she was given, and I thought we got an honest and refreshing look at the double standards between men and women, and how it's not the actions that she regretted so much as the reasons she was doing it, and how it made her feel.

I also really loved that the author took a good hard look at mental health, and that we got to see Ella's sessions with her therapist. I will admit that while I LOVED that this was all looked at, occasionally it felt a little heavy-handed. Which is funny, b/c this issue is really important to me. Or maybe not heavy-handed so much as not as natural to the story...I don't know, I don't know how to explain it.

Ella was spunky, but also really vulnerable and insecure. I really did feel for her, even if her penchant for pushing people away made me want to throttle her. It made her growth more satisfying though.

And then we get Ben!! We also got to see the slut-shaming from his perspective, and I loved that it really opened his eyes as well. I honestly thought we were going to get more from his background and past, but that wasn't as prominent as I'd expected. But I loved how we got an even deeper look at what it might be like for a hockey athlete looking to get drafted. I loved how vulnerable and scared and overwhelmed he was, and I guess that's sort of where we see the effects of his past. He felt so alone at times, and my heart broke for him. But I also really admired his dedication and determination, and I loved how Ella really showed him parts of himself to be proud of.

Their romance was cuter than I expected. I guess because I never really understood why they were enemies, since it was based on assumptions about the other person. But Ben was so adorable in his pursuit of Ella. He kind of made me swoon at times. Maybe because he was kind of vulnerable, but he still put himself out there. And I really loved their chemistry...holy heck could you feel it right from that dance scene!

I loved having more fun scenes with their group of friends! They often made me laugh out loud at their strange conversations and antics.

I will admit that occasionally certain transitions didn't feel smooth to me...but that could be in my head too. (Like those strange conversations with their friends didn't always flow as naturally for me)

So yeah, I was surprised that I enjoyed this one even more than the previous book! And again, if you love hockey, or love sports romances that actually showcase the sport, I think Ms. Jamieson is one of the best I've ever read for that! And now she's made me want to check out her Aces series!!
**Advanced reader copy received from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

In this second book in the Bayard Hockey series, we get a little bit of everything - love, hate, emotion, empathy and of course hockey! While this is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone and your enjoyment will not be effected.

Ben Buckingham is a stud on the Bayard hockey team and his chances of being drafted into the NHL are very high. While Ben projects himself as a polished, well-dressed athlete, there are some things in his past that he would much rather leave there and solely focus on hockey and moving forward with his life.

Ella Verran is going through her own trying time since she's just been put on academic probation and she's trying to repair her relationship with her best friend Skylar. Since Skylar is her best friend, she often finds herself hanging out with her and her boyfriend, Jacob, who also happens to be best friends with Ben. Ben and Ella have always had a love-hate relationship and for them, spending time together isn't exactly high on their list of things to do. Or is it?

As Ben and Ella get to know one another better and they see other sides of each other, they realize that maybe they have judged one another completely wrong. While neither of them is looking for a committed relationship, are they going to be able to smolder the sparks that are igniting between them?

While this book does center on college, hockey and relationships, I felt like it centered on so much more. It dealt with love, loss, forgiveness and mental illness and it shed some light on issues that sometimes are still difficult for people to address. Kudos to Kelly Jamieson for writing not only a great love story, but one that shed light on other important topics.

NO SPOILERS!!! My husband first read this book in German, while living in Germany. He had seen the movie when he was little and thought the book might be as entertaining. Well not only was it entertaining, but it was so much better than the movie. He loved the book so much that he bought an English version for me and told me that I had to read it. This book is unlike anything else I've ever read, its a story within a story. The magical world that Michael Ende creates is captivating. The characters are well thought out, and it's hard not to fall in love with them. We are now reading this to our little children and they are enjoying it just as much as we did. I highly recommend reading this story, by yourself, or to your children.

The Neverending Story Michael Ende Ralph Manheim 8601300313153 Books Reviews

Spoiler alert, the book does have an ending...
This was one of my favourite books as a kid, and I re-read it to my son recently. Still a very colourful book with a few unexpected twists along the way. Definitely something different - my son was quite shocked at the actions of the protagonist at points, and came away questioning "who is the hero?" , so it really made him think about how stories are told. It's a good book with an interesting message, even if some plot points seem to go off randomly (and sometimes unfulfillingly).
I read this book in high school, but it was a newer edition that didn't have colored text. It was a fantastic book then, but reading this first edition was an absolute joy. It makes the book much more dynamic and easier on the eyes when it switches between reality and fantasy. Additionally, the illustrations for the first letter of each chapter are amazingly detailed and beautiful (better than the cover art, too). Don't judge this edition by its cover, just read it.

Now, as far as the actual book as it is to read...you probably already know the basic story from the first couple of movies. I'm happy to say that, as per usual, the book is MUCH better than the movie. You even get more story than what you can find from those movies, which makes this book even better!
Reading this with my kids. It is kind of philosophical for the little ones but they can follow because they loved the movies . Good to share this which i loved myself when i was young with my children. I think it is important to expose kids to higher reading levels to challenge and expand their boundaries. Beautifully written.
This is such a weird book. So far beyond the movie. The movie ends maybe a third of the way into the book, and then the book just gets super weird and meanders through some possibly unnecessary terrain. It's trippy and vaguely psychedelic. It's an interesting look at loneliness, and at jealousy and ego and the various negative sides to personality. And it both praises and critiques creativity and imagination (the dark side of which is suspiciously missing from the film version). There's a certain amount of philosophy and metaphor that can be drawn from this, if you're looking for it.
The story is fantastic and even though its vocabulary and the narrative is truly intended for older kids my 6 year old daughter asks me to read it to her every night. I consider this a must read book for everyone.
About this edition. Priced under what a medium latte goes for these days, this is a very affordable edition so I can't complain. It's light and the cover has a nice texture to it. However, the low price comes at the cost of the dual color printing of the original edition (as the story unfolds in both the real world and Fantastica, the original had green letters for one world and reddish letters for the other world, so having all black letters takes a bit away from the atmosphere). Ultimately there is no real harm done and black lettering may be better for some eyes; but if the colored printing is important for you, look at another edition.
First of all, please don’t judge this book on its movies. The book is split into two movies. While I liked the first movie (which was close to the book), I thought the second movie (which wasn’t close at all) was a bit of a joke. I also felt like Bastian in the movie was almost useless, and I wanted a better conclusion.

The book is a completely different matter. Never before have I cared so much about a character in a book. Bastian is a self-conscious, unpopular kid who makes up stories all the time and wants nothing more than to escape the humdrum of life to live in fantasy. I was exactly the same as a kid, and I read every fantasy book I could get my hands on. When I couldn’t find the story I wanted, I made it up. Sometimes, I wanted to hug Bastian, and sometimes I wanted to smack his stupid face, because he could be such an idiot, but he just wanted to help everyone.

My favorite part, and the one that made me care about him, was when Bastian said that he didn’t like books that tried to convince him that it was real; he wanted pure fantasy. Life was full of humdrum. Nobody understood why I never read anything but fantasy, and the less believable, the more I wanted to get lost in it. And that is exactly what this book gave me. It is absolutely, utter fantasy. It’s a journey.

I liked Atreyu as well, as he is consistently brave and heroic, yet mortal, throughout. There wasn’t a single character or creature that I thought was unnecessary or underplayed. I disliked a number of them, but they made the story better. The writing was excellent, especially for a book translated from German. The scenes were well-done.

The narrator did this book justice. Except for Atreyu and Bastian, I could always tell everyone apart. Again, there were voices I didn’t like, but that was because of the characters/creatures themselves. He even did the rhyming, poetry, and singing better than I’ve ever heard from an audiobook. Fortunately, there was no music in the background. There were some times when the characters were whispering when I had to sit there with my thumb on the volume rocker, turning it up and down, but the story was just too good to let that bother me.

Overall, in the top ten books I’ve ever read in my entire life. It doesn’t matter if this book is meant for children, because it reminds me of the utter freedom I felt when I was a child and discovered a masterpiece of fantasy.
This book had me hooked by the end of the second short chapter, and apparently I don’t have much willpower, as I devoured the rest in a 24-hour period. The brisk pacing and mystery box format, with deftly handled multiple points of view, are addictive. The main protagonist, Ji Lin, is endearing, as is the houseboy Ren, and I found myself rooting for each through all the twists and turns of their adventures. This is easily my favorite of all the new books I’ve read in the past year. (And no, I did not receive a free advance copy—bought this for myself and am glad I did!)
I was so thrilled to read this book by Yangsze Choo after reading her other book called "The Ghost Bride".
Today, I read "The NIght Tiger" and I could not put it down, and marathon-ed it in 12 hours!

From the first chapter until the end the story continues to get better and better. Each chapter revealing more of the story to be completed like a perfect puzzle at the end.

Already, reading first chapter the book grabbed me tight....
A dying man whispers something to a boy ......
"Remember"
The boy nods.
"Say it." The hoarse rasp is fading.
"When you are dead, I will find your missing finger," Ren replies in a clear, small voice.
"And?"
He hesitates. "And bury it in your grave"
"Good" The old man draws a rattling breath. "You must get it back before the forty-nine days of my soul are over".................

From that moment, I was not only intrigued by the story, but how wonderful it was written.
Yangsze Choo is one of these authors that transforms pages written into a magical story line, full of mystery, paranormal and spectacular journey.

I can't wait until her next book is in print and I was totally enchanted and honored to read this one! YOU WILL TOO!

(I was selected to read this book for an honest review)
Briefly, the story involves several themes that pertain specifically to the areas of Malaysia and surrounding Chinese culture. Superstitions, interactions with the imperialist workers, danger of adjacent wildlife, and expectations for different age groups in the 1930s, to name a few. It's fascinating.

The storyline and integration of these themes are complex without being unapproachable. The complicated nature of the superstition that serves as the basis is slowly revealed without hand holding.

So often, a colonial / imperial historical fiction can carry such a heavy agenda that it is annoying to read. When that happens, it's also ironically all about the white man the author is trying to critique, preventing the "locals" from creating their own identity. In those cases, it's still like "The White Man's Burden," though the objective is to criticize that sentiment. This one just tells a great story, with plenty of depth for learning about imperialism, the era, and how the cultures worked together or clashed.

Spoiler the love story within this was so well-handled. It felt like an authentic progression of feelings and exposure of the foundation for love. The characters developed within the story, as well as revealed their past development as the story moved.

It's just so creative, I'm definitely going to have a book hangover after this one. I hope the author quickly writes another so I have something good to read.
I read this in one sitting. It took me to another time and place, and I couldn't put it down. And when I reached the end, I had to go back and read it a second time--this time slowly, savoring all my favorite moments.

I also read The Ghost Bride, and I enjoyed this one more.
This was such an interesting story line and glimpse into Malaysian culture. This is definitely book club worthy - truly fascinating.
Could not put it down. I swapped between the audio and the kindle and finished it in one go. Even better than the Ghost Bride. Yangsze has the native's grasp of her place, and the time could be from grandparent's tales. But the mystery had me going to the end! The romance was very realistically nuanced as well.
Interesting plot, like able characters and I must have liked it because I want a sequel. Learning about other cultural beliefs threaded into a suspenseful story.

Illusions of Fate Kiersten White Books

Review:

I’ve read so much positive feedback regarding this book that I had to have it in my TBR pile, even though, I deleted it some time ago due to the pile being unbearably huge already. I’m, however, glad that I decided to give this a second chance, because it seems, it got an awesome 5 stars!

There is so much to appreciate about this lovely and magical stand-alone, so here are some aspects I loved:

The world-creating is simply marvelous, it’s detailed yet doesn’t overwhelmed you and has endless possibilities. The idea is also more on the original side with aristocrats wielding magic that ordinary people have no idea about. In addition, the topic of conquered and colonized culture against the dominating one was intriguing and provided color. The setting was great as well, historical fantasy YA always has something mysterious and compelling about it.

The whole relationship of Jessamin and Finn was über cute and sweet, and not only because she’s the poor servant girl and he the dashing Lord. The whole shadow thing and them arguing and fighting each other and then her just fighting him and him trying to court her and all the glorious banter - oh the brilliant banter! They were so adorable together, shy and awkward, but the chemistry was definitely all there. Oh, and the cards were a really romantic touch.

I respected and adored Jessamin, she had attitude, was independent, self-sufficient and while she could be be too stubborn at times and that would annoy me, she was brave and a role-model. Also, kudos to the author for making her darker skinned, I don’t think I’ve ever read a book about a heroine who wasn’t Caucasian or Asian, it simply hasn’t crossed my path. Finn was as well very likable and incredibly charming and boyish. Rich, powerful and handsome, he was the whole package, but he was also simply an all-around nice guy.

I really welcomed the sinister and vicious villain in this, he was just dastardly and I thought it worked superbly for the plot and magical world. I also have to give a shout out to Eleanor, a remarkably humorous, tricky and politely smart-ass friend that Jassamin makes. Mr Bird was his own person as well, who cares if he was only a crow.

What didn’t work (but I didn’t mind as much, because everything else was just so delightful):

While I’m so glad that there is no sequel, having this as a stand-alone, I would have wanted more. More background information about the political, social and magic related topics, a million times more romance, swoony moments and simply scenes spent together with Jessamin and Finn – there were far too little, they were sufficient, but when something is done so right, one always craves for more. I think the possibilities to explore and what to focus on in this world were quite vast and limitless.

The ending was rushed and the final twist, while intriguing, felt odd and out-of-place, simply because it went by so fast that I never had time to mull it over and have myself come to terms with how everything unrolled and what was revealed. Some of the connections and explanations were kind of weak as well.

Overall:

I’m again soooo glad I gave this story a second glance, because I would have missed out on a lot. It’s a charming, emotional, well-written and well-imagined story, yes, it’s short and flies by like magic, but it’s one of the most delicious short book-bites I’ve had in a long while. I definitely have to check out others books by this author!

Illusions of Fate Kiersten White Books Reviews

Rating ~3.5
This book was a short delightful read. The main characters were charming and I liked the premise. I liked Finn. I loved Jessamin. Finn and Jessamin were a lovely couple. They accepted each other for who they were and respected each others choices, despite not always agreeing with them. Additionally, I really loved Jessamin and Eleanor they were near opposites but truly made perfect friends.

However, despite much promise, not too much happened most of the book and quite a few aspects were underdeveloped. Most of the action happened at the very last minute. All-in-all the book didn't feel like it was moving at a slow pace at all, it's just that for some reason all the MAJOR events occurred in the last quarter of the book. Most of the book, while well written and pleasant, was spent waiting for the climax to come. Toward the end I was like wait is nothing going to come of this conflict? Then BAM all the action, all at once.

*Spoils ahead* (All occurring in the last 50 or so pages, give or take)

1. Finn and Jessamin (main protagonist ) confront her s***ty father and find out he's working for the bad guy
2. Finn gets wrongly arrested for the murder of Jessamin's father
3. Jessamin gets blackmailed by bad guy into handing over the key to helping him takeover the continent
4. Finn gets shot and falls into the river, and is presumed dead
5. Bad guy turns out to be Jessamin's childhood friend/summer fling in disguise (This actually did legit surprised me)
6. Jessamin defeats the bad guy thanks to a trick she set up earlier in the book
7. Evil guy was defeated, Jessamin saved her friends and family minus Finn. She opts to escape the godforsaken country she originally used to escape her from her marriage prospects at home, promising her beloved friend Eleanor she'll visit in the future
8. (Not kidding when I say this) On the second to last page of this book, Finn comes to the door of his magical apartment. He's tattered and bruised but very much ALIVE. The two essentially promise to be together forever and then the book ends.

I liked the authors writing. I liked Finn, Jessamin and Eleanor but this book could have been so much more. For one, other than the characters I just mentioned no other character really not any development. Jessamin's cousin Jacobo for example, we kept hearing how he was a great guy. That Jacobo and Mati were a great couple and they deserved each other because they were both so sweet and compatible. Alright, but how about showing me that. I don't need you to tell me why I should root for them. I want to feel for myself why I should root for them. Lord Downpike/Kelen I get that he was evil and everything but I wish I could get a bit more backstory on him, more about the struggle he faced in the wake of what happened to his mother etc. Because honestly with more development he would've made for a truly fabulous villain. One of those gray villains where you hate what they do, but you understand why they feel they need to do it. All we got at the end was how he was always the fox whenever they played Fox and Rabbit as kids. Not exactly the makings of a homicidal maniac there.

Basically, this book could've used another hundred pages or so to fill in the gaps but overall was pleasant enough and I kind of just accepted things as they were. At least Finn and Jessamin were a sweet couple, so could at least root for them even though the overarching plot wasn't that strong.

The Ghost and the Goth A Ghost and the Goth Novel Stacey Kade Books

I'm biased with this book because I'm heavily invested on the I-can-see-dead-people trope. But what I loved most about this novel is how light, entertaining and undemanding it is. Also, it was nice to read about a female ghost and a male medium for a change. The pacing is slow, with most scenes spent on navigating Alona's transition from the most popular girl in her high school to being dead, how Will is handling his life seeing and hearing the dead, and how their unexpected bond formed. I didn't mind a bit. I loved getting "introductions" about their lives. Alona is more than a pretty face and Will is definitely not a goth (not emo and angsty, too. Just an underrated handsome guy). The subplot only heightened late in the story, but I have no complaints. I'm already drawn to the characters. I couldn't put it down and I couldn't wait to read the next installment.
Dang it! It wasn't until after reading this neat little book, which could very well have been a stand alone, did I learn it was the first part of a planned trilogy. This literally just happened to me with Nevermore by Kelly Creagh (which I loved!!!!) and I was bummed to know I'd be waiting a year to read her second in that trilogy. I guess I have to check these things out before I purchase next time, I hate waiting.

But onto the review. As with the Nevermore trilogy, I will be seeking out Queen of the Dead (the second Ghost and the Goth book) as soon as it hits the stands in June 2011. Yes, I liked it that much! Alona is the girl you love to hate and boy did I do a lot of both. There were times I wanted to reach through the pages and smack her arrogant butt but other times I wanted to offer her a consoling hug. I like that she's a well balanced character though, snarky enough to pull off the necessary level of contempt but not too evil that you hate her and with enough vulnerability to actually see her potential as a truly nice (person?) ghost. Killian is a doll, the kind of boy you wished you had as a boyfriend in high school, though at times I wished he were slightly edgier. He wasn't as twisted and tormented as I thought he should/could be, but I still loved him as a character.

This is a fun little book with some interesting plot devices, one including a slightly nutty goth friend Joonie who has a disturbing fixation on her and Killian's friend Lily who lies comatose in a local hospital. Yikes. The plot and subplots are all very linear, there are really no BIG surprises, even at the end. Though this is a planned trilogy, there's no cliffhanger at the end. That happened in Nevermore and I'm still pulling my hair out, especially since I know I have to wait a year to find out what happens, so I'm thankful Stacey Kade didn't put me through that with Ghost and the Goth. Thank you!

Okay, now down to brass tax. Here are a few minor niggling issues. Killian's mother was an underdeveloped character and one that I was eager to hear more from, especially since we learn fairly early on that her husband, Killian's father, has committed suicide. I wanted to learn more from her, find out how such a dramatic upheaval affected her life and her relationship with Killian. This was an area of the novel which was underdeveloped and left me feeling a bit disappointed. Another bone of contention was Misty's betrayal of her BFF Alona with Alona's boyfriend Chris. Sure, this wasn't that huge a subplot but it was mentioned enough to warrant a better, more realistic resolution. Alona just decides at the end of the book that she's not angry with Misty anymore? Huh? Pushing aside the fact that I don't think this is terribly realistic, if you're expecting us to believe that it's true, you have to lead us there. It just fell a little flat for me, especially having gotten to know Alona so well.

For those truly invested in the romance elements of your "paranormal romance" this may not hit all the marks for you. The romance is believable and there is the necessary level of tension and interest, but the true "romance" in never fully realized. Sure, there are two kisses, but they're tentative and not overly emotional. Perhaps this element is slated for greater exploration in book two, and from reading the previews it sounds as if that's exactly the plan. Either way, you won't be leaving this book with the heart-wrenching love story in some of the other Y/A paranormal romances as this is a little more chaste and understated. That being said, it's got great potential and I look forward seeing where Ms. Kade takes it.

Irrespective of my minor complaints, it was an fun read and a great cast of characters. I look forward to the next installment!
Alona Dare is the undisputed queen of her school, possessing the perfect body, the perfect friends, the perfect boyfriend. Her life is the envy of her lesser peers, a carefully crafted image she jealously guards and cultivates with the aplomb of a savvy press agent. But there are cracks in the foundation of Alona's perfect life -- a less-than-perfect home life that reaches a boiling point, leading Alona to an unguarded, fateful moment when she steps in front of a bus and is instantly killed. But death is nothing like Alona expected, as she shortly wakes up still in the land of the living -- not living, exactly, but stuck "in-between," forced to watch life go on sans her sparkling presence. To her everlasting chagrin the only one who can still see her and hear her is Will Killian, a loser -- the type of guy she'd have never associated with when she was alive. But she needs Will and his "knack" for communicating with the dead if she has any hope of moving on from land of in-between. For his part Will would like nothing better than to see Alona disappear for good -- his "gift" has brought him nothing but heartache and stress, and one less unseen voice clamoring for his attention can only be seen as a win. But the more Will and Alona get to know each other the more they begin to realize a spark of what might have been if either had dared to look beyond the superficial. When a particularly malevolent ghost sets its sights on Will's destruction, the Alona and Will are forced to become allies, and in the process discover the sparks of a relationship neither saw coming which proves a force that cannot be denied.

Paranormals of any sort are pretty much completely outside the realm of my reading experience, but after a friend's review I knew I had to check this book out. Fabulously cheesy title and candy-colored cover aside, it sounded like just plain fun. And oh, I'm so glad I stepped outside my norm and tried this, as The Ghost and the Goth is ridiculously entertaining from start to finish. With Alona and Will, Kade has created two of the most memorable characters to populate YA lit that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting on the page. Just when you think you have Alona all figured out -- spoiled, bratty, and privileged -- sure you could never, ever pull for her as a heroine, Kade gradually lays out the truth of Alona's backstory, revealing her heartache and struggles and just how easy it is to judge her, even as we as readers formed our own preconceived notions about Alona because of how she perceived others. And Will -- oh my WORD, where was a Will when I was in high school (never mind, where is the equivalent now? LOL)? He is quite simply one of the most swoon-worthy heroes ever, the struggling social outcast, burdened by a gift (curse?) he never wanted, absolutely sure he has Alona's character nailed until she begins to prove him wrong.

Kade gives us these characters, their hopes, dreams, and fears beautifully realized on the page, and she nails the teenage point-of-view. All of the uncertainty and angst are there, but that never bogs down the narrative because sparks positively fly from the page whenever Will and Alona meet. The novel alternates between chapters in each principle's point-of-view, allowing us to see their transformation and slow-burning romance gain traction, as the most unlikely romantic pair you'd ever hope to meet starts to discover just how much they've come to matter to each other. And if sarcasm and witty banter are your thing, Kade delivers it in spades. The snarky one-liners fly between Alona and Will non-stop, so much so that they began to remind me a bit of my favorite bickering Shakespearean couple, Beatrice and Benedick of Much Ado About Nothing. Yes, I just pulled the Shakespeare card -- I loved this pair that much. )

This is a breezy, fast read, the perfect candy-coated brand of escapism I found myself craving this week. Kade keeps the action moving at a snappy pace, never losing sight of her story's greatest asset -- the wonderfully snarky back-and-forth between Alona and Will. And I loved how she gradually metes out the secrets of each character's backstory, constantly dropping tantalizing clues, just enough information to keep you flipping pages at a breathless pace. And while the climax is a bit (ahem) over-the-top, the earnestness it provokes in Will and Alona, their heartfelt desire to help each other more than makes up for it. While I could've done without some of the swearing, this is a surprisingly clean novel with an equally surprising romantic sizzle that guarantees I'll be reading its sequels. The Ghost and the Goth is a ridiculously fun, engaging, addictive read -- very, very well done.
Patriot Acts by Steven Clark Bradley is the story of a world that could easily be seen as the world of today. After a brief reminder of all the different wars and actions of terror that have played out upon our world recently, we are introduced to Fisher Harrison, an American soldier, who is sneaking through Iraq in 1991. Through his covert actions, American military goals are worked towards, even if they come at a high personal cost for Harrison. Like he was trained: Country Comes First. Although, when his presence becomes responsible for an artillery barrage upon the same people he is hiding amongst, that same noble nation decides that it's easier to declare him dead and leave him to fend for himself standing upon the enemy sands than to rescue him and risk being held to blame for the deaths that were caused.
Eventually, radical ultra-conservative separatists see the good of rescuing Harrison to use his military skills against the US Government. Their plan also involves nuclear weaponry supplied by Iran (of course, this only works for either side because of a common goal of destroying parts of the American political scene they don't agree with). Can president Tate or patriot Harrison sort through all the problems and lies of this mucked-up situation and keep America safe once multiple atomic warheads are spread to undisclosed locations across the country?
Hidden away in an Alaskan prison, serving time for a crime he never committed, Colonel Fisher Harrison thinks of revenge. His government forsake him and his Special Ops buddies and no one was meant to survive. If Fisher gets out of that hellish place, the man who put him there is going to pay.

But that man is now President of the United States and seemingly untouchable; until the Islamic Republic of Iran and radical American militia groups join forces, and President Christopher Tate knows that Colonel Harrison is the only man who can stop a planned covert nuclear attack. Will Fisher help the government who forsake him? And if he does, will he make it out alive?

"Patriot Acts" by Steven Clark Bradley is an intense, fast-paced modern day thriller that leaves you clinging to the edge of your seat. Bradley's wealth of experience comes alive in this story of a covert nuclear attack planned by two deadly forces. Having traveled to thirty-four countries and having been a freelance journalist in Iraq, Israel and Turkey, Bradley creates a realistic and scary portrait of potential terrorism issues home and abroad.

Strong and complex characters fill this novel. From Fisher Harrison to Christopher Tate, from radical militia leader Len Garret to Jamie O'Rourke, the President's Chief of Staff, every player is alternately sympathetic and despicable, likable and easily hated. Bradley has done an excellent job of creating multi-faceted characters whose actions move this story along at a fast clip.

That said, the overuse of the exclamation point in the dialogue rendered its effect useless, and a good editor may have helped making some of the transitions easier. Since this book travels back and forth in time, the choppy transitions occasionally left this reader with a moment of confusion until she figured out the character was recalling past events.

"Patriot Acts" by Steven Clark Bradley will be a hit with military fiction fans, lovers of fast-paced thrillers, and anyone interested in the War on Terror. This is definitely a book worth checking out.
A very interesting book, exciting from the begining to the end...I think Mr Bardley is a very talented writter, who writes with passion from his heart...I would highly recommend this book to all who still love america and believe themselves to be true american partriots and who love a good novel, Great Book!!!
How can America ever forget what happened on September 11, 2001? A horror that's better known as 9-1-1, and a nightmare that shocked all
Americans, a disaster that should have never occurred. While on a ship
in Bermuda, the captain announced the terrifying event, three-thousand
people aboard in complete panic for their loved ones who may have lost
their lives that day. As I viewed the burning towers on TV, I immediately
thought of friends who I knew worked there, and prayed in silence that their lives didn't end. I knew the amount of people that had to be hurt,
and could silently hear the screams. Husbands, wives, and children.
Pregnant women, firefighters, and police officers. Innocent bystanders,
and tourists. I thought to myself, how many times have I looked up to
the towers? But on this day, I never imagined devastation would occur!
Me, along with millions of Americans were all asking the same two
questions, why, and how? Steven Clark Bradley's "PATRIOT ACTS" comes to
life, and is as scary as the same day I witnessed the tragedy of the
burning towers. He creates a picture-perfect image of terrorism, and
brings it to life in his adrenaline-pumping story of a nuclear attack
after visiting thirty-four countries, and expertise on working as a
freelance journalist. I recommend this novel to all those interested to
learn about terrorism, for military fiction fans, and all thriller lovers. The reader is able to dive into the dangerous mind of a
terrorist, learning what motivates such a person, and why this person
can become a walking time bomb. This novel leaves an aftermath behind,
without a doubt and the readers will indeed keep thinking about the
War on Terror, long after they close the book. For added touches, the
author cleverly demonstrates what it feels like to live through a
national crisis, and the reader can sense the fear through this
remarkable story. "PATRIOT ACTS" is as intense as "ARLINGTON ROAD"
where your paranoia can become real, and is as mesmerizing as
"WORLD TRADE CENTER."

Geraldine Ahearn AIOM HonDG
author of 6 books
Founding Member ABI Women's Review Board
I felt that the writing was a little immature - to someone not ally into surfing, some of the descriptions seemed repetitive and a bit boring. Still a good effort by a young writer. Worth reading
New to me Australian author. Very colourful language, a tale of almost adults and having to deal with the good and the bad life throws at them. Grace and Ben are twins. This is Grace’s story. Very moving and thought provoking.
Breathing Underwater is the second book by Sophie Hardcourt, this is her first work of fiction as her first book was a memoir on her experience with having Bipolar 1, and now having read this one I am looking forward to going back and reading the first book.

Ben and Grace are close, they share everything, a love of surfing, their friends with most of their time being spent together. Ben is the sun and Grace is the moon, Ben is the light and Grace the shadow. Through the book you meet their parents and close friends, another major character for me is the surf itself, it is a beautiful, intense and looming character through the book.

From the blurb you know something is going to happen that there will be some trauma, I got to about 30% of the way through the book and was like its coming now isn't it, there was a teaser where i thought oh god this is it.. But nothing and then when I had just started to relax BOOM it hit me. There was much weeping though the book for me once the tumult had happened and you see the impact that grief has on a family and friends. The way each person deals with it and they ways they try to escape it, I just wanted to give Mia a big hug again and again, and wanted to shake some of the adults and go, remember her, that beautiful girl you still have, lover her and take care of her.

The book, Mia and her family make it to where they need to be, it felt natural and as it should be. The last part of the book really lifted and healed my spirits, no spoilers here but I felt much lighter by the end of the book. The style of the writing is beautiful, it is lyrical and wonderful and it was such a pleasure to read.
I felt that the writing was a little immature - to someone not ally into surfing, some of the descriptions seemed repetitive and a bit boring. Still a good effort by a young writer. Worth reading
SPOILER ALERT: I'm giving this three stars instead of four as although the story is interesting and the writing is pretty good, book 1 and book 2 could have really been one book. The cliff hanger endings are kind of annoying and I feel like breaking up the story into 15 (fifteen? really? probably won't get that far) is a ploy for the author or Amazon (or both) to get more $ out of me.

The Coven Sweep No 2 Cate Tiernan Books Reviews

I'm enjoying the process of the characters learning about Wicca and seeing the changes in themselves as they learn. I'm continuing with the series and enjoying it immensely.
I am really liking these books. When I am finished with one book I can't wait to get the next to see what will happen.
I really liked this book...I'm not a teen, but love to read all kinds of stuff. This one surprised me with how informative it is on Wicca. Not Wiccan, nor do I have any interest in it, but we could always learn more about other religions. Bought the second book right after finishing it, which I think is even better.
In book 2 our heroine learns she is a hereditary Witch adopted by a "human" couple after her mother and father were murdered by some huge evil magick that had killed all their clan except them.

The plot includes a lot of jealousy and competition between teenage girls who all wanted the same man, and other teenage girls who are shallow and who play with boys for selfish ego reasons. It includes a confrontation and reconciliation with Morgan's parents over having not been told she was adopted. The mother of Morgan's BF, Cal, turns out to have some evil Witches in her coven.

The story also includes a lot of gay push that adds nothing to the story or characters. Pushing homosexuality at teenagers is offensive. It loses points.

These books are fairly light reading, quick to read, not very deep. Entertaining to read on an otherwise boring afternoon.
In The Coven Morgan has found out that she is a blood witch and thinks if she is one then the rest of her family is too. But when she tells them these things it doesn't go the way it should and she also finds out that she was actually adopted when she was only nine months old.
I just want to say I am 35 years old and I love the Sweep series. I love the price too! I have lent them to a 25 year old friend who loves them just as much, and now my 17 year old niece is reading them. None of us have been able to put them down once we pick one up. I am collecting the set, but am a bit frustrated that the new editions haven't all been released yet. I found the first editions for cheap and snatched them up because none of us can wait to see how things end up. Great reads, highly recommend for teens on up!
My favorite book series of all time. I've bought it 3 times over the years, having given it away to people to read. I'm glad I will finally own it all digitally soon.
SPOILER ALERT I'm giving this three stars instead of four as although the story is interesting and the writing is pretty good, book 1 and book 2 could have really been one book. I read her first book and felt I wanted to read the second one as well. To me it is almost unimaginable that something like that happens right here in the U.S. People in that religious offspring of the Latter Day's Saints cult are completely indoctrinated. Women have no rights, are married off often at 12 or 14 years of age to 58 year old men. Young men are often kicked out of that cult so the old men will not have any competition and some of those men with multiple wives will produce something like 59 offspring. In this day and age with world population exploding no man should be allowed to foster 59 kids. Carolyn Jessop managed to escape despite the extreme difficulties and for the first time experienced real love, was able to take care of her kids the way she wanted and felt worthy as a person.

Triumph Life After the CultA Survivor Lessons eBook Carolyn Jessop Laura Palmer Reviews

A book that is hard to put down. While some of it was a little repetitive from her first book, nevertheless I found it riveting. Since Ms Jessop was raised in polygamy, it took years for her to understand that her deep unhappiness with the system was not an evil reflection on her own character, as she had been taught. Here she describes the big and little things that opened her eyes to the truth, also giving encouragement and practical advice to others who may be dealing with polygamy or other forms of sanctioned evil. There are many.
One of her grandmothers was also a teacher, who lived in polygamy before it became so extreme. Although she was allowed to keep a part of her small teaching salary, this was inadequate to ensure her security. In a stroke of genius and perseverance, she saved for and purchased a back hoe for use on the weekends, which neighbors clamored for and were willing to pay. Thus Ms Jessop had a role model from a previous generation for the independence she began to discover in fleeing the cult and writing her book "Escape"
I wish Ms Jessop the very best and would love an update on her family!
In her first book Carolyn Jessop details her life, her marriage to Merill Jessop, the birth of her eight children and their escape in 2003.

This book details her life after the escape. After the raid on the Texas FLDS Compound Carolyn was asked to fly down to Texas to help investigators and the CPS to better understand the mindset of the people of the FLDS. Carolyn brought her two younger daughters to show their half-siblings that they did not have to worry about the outside world. They were worried because at least 8 of Merill's daughters by several other wives were taken during the raid.

Shortly after the raid Carolyn was involved in several court cases dealing with the raid and the FLDS. One of them involved her former step-daughter who was married to Warren Jeffs when he was 50 and she was 12. Carolyn testified about abuse that she witnessed from the girls mother Barbara. Prosecutors wanted to take both of Barbara's underage children from her, but only ended up getting the daughter who married Warren removed leaving Barbara with her 11 year old son.

The other case dealt with money. After Carolyn escaped with her children Merill did not pay her any money to help support their children. Carolyn knew that he had the money and that he was hiding some, but after the escape she did not have the financial resources to go after him. After the raid she knew would be a good time to iron out the money that Carolyn felt Merill owed her and their children. Their daughter Luanne as well as Carolyn's father testified. After the case was settled Carolyn got to see her daughter Betty who had returned to the FLDS two days after her 18th birthday.

This part of the book also details how the raid effected her children. During this time her older children would get calls from their half-siblings still in the FLDS which were very hard on them because the siblings would attack Carolyn. It also brought back bad memories of abuse, both physical and sexual, that happened to her children by their half siblings (who used the raid to their advantage in print and television stories.)

The second part of the book details the things that Carolyn learned along the way that helped her once she escaped.

All in all a very inspirational story about a woman who faced adversary and overcame it and learned something from it.
The book is excellent, and let me say that I don't review often at all. In fact this is my first book review ever. I'm reviewing because this book should get the recognition that it deserves. The character building is excellent and story telling. Its pretty hard to get a really good werewolf book, but this is great. Though it is relatively slow to build up, you get a good feel of the torment that our priest goes through.

Now my only question is where is the second novel. Its been two years and I would have expected a second by now. Now I don't know Mr Niedermann if you read these reviews or not, and I don't know if the reason you havn't written another book is due to unsuccessfulness or Not. I can only assume that it has not been too successful due to the lack of reviews, but let me say that i often search for werewolf novels to read and I only came across yours due to happenstance. Youtube would other outlets would be great way to further commercialize your books. That beings said, I hope you continue this novel series.
This is a very well written and entertaining book. I would love it if the author turned it into a series and wrote a few more.
I read the first page and could not put it down after that. It is really well written and intriguing. Leaves you wanting more. The main character, Rev. Lehmann is truly sympathetic and you feel you are sharing everything he is going through. When he changes into a werewolf you really think it is happening to you, too. And the bad guy is really creepy. He gets what he deserves. I was so sad when it ended, though. Cannot wait for the series. I'm going to get others hooked and we will be bugging the author for more! The only problem is waiting for the next one!A Purer Evil The Werewolf Priest
I had really high hopes for this book. Somehow I thought this would be more about the Obama White House, the actual travel, the people in the administration. Instead, it was a story filled with tales of drunken evenings, junior high style crushes, disorganized travel and generalized personal angst. It was just a disappointing mess. I stopped reading about halfway through and skipped to the end, hoping for a redemption that wasn't there. I found Ms. Dorey-Stein's writing to be overwrought.

From the Corner of the Oval A Memoir Beck DoreyStein 9780525509127 Books Reviews

If you want to buy this book for an Insider's view of the Obama's White House, don't. Basically it's a brag on how much she can drink and s****w. Not worth the ink
A Unique View of a Side of DC and the Whitehouse Seldom Seen

Beck, as she likes to call herself, writes a unique and personal story of being a very small cog in one of the biggest machines in our world with all the joy, pain, and disappointment of a decidedly open heart. In our world of political cynicism and power pursuit at all costs it is refreshing to see our government in operation thru the eyes of a young lady with all the hopes, dreams, and confusions that life brings to the young and optimistic!!

I found this book to be both touching and interesting. It is valuable to take a step back and view the soft and sometimes difficult passage in the service to our country of people who will never be recognized but who contribute to the success of our experiment in democracy.
I was struck by the title before I read the story review. Of course I had to buy this book because a oval does not have a corner. It is a great read! I liked the human way she handled her characters; not assigning any ethnicity. Some incidents made me LOL. I was delighted that she remembered former President Obama in such a favorable light. I was sorta disappointed that she did not assign a real name to "Rattler". Congrats "Becky" on your first book, I will be checking you for more of your writing. You go girl!
I loved this book. Dorey-Stein was merciless with herself and I must admit to being unable to connect to a 20-something in several ways, but I could read her writing all the way to the moon and back. I loved that it wasn't a tell-all (except on herself). It was, in fact, a lot like watching The West Wing. Her job as a stenographer was one that many of us didn't even realize existed, much less how it was done, and I liked reading about that, too. There is, I will admit, a disconnect from real life for readers like me--she never ran a vacuum or washed a dish or put gas in a car or cooked a meal--but it was still fun and informative.

The title was inspired. It was what drew me in the first place.

This was Ms. Dorey-Stein's first book. I guarantee it won't be her last, and I can't wait to see what comes next.
OK, I rarely write a bad review. But I'm trying to save you. This book is just awful...To be honest, I expected more. I realize this is a first book, but it had been lauded by the media as being so wonderful. What it actually delivers doesn't match at all. After a few interesting details, like how she found the job on Craigslist, and her first few days, it devolves into a ridiculous litany of late 20's angst over multiple boyfriends who cheat on her (who she keeps going back to because she "loves" them so much and makes every excuse to justify her lack of self-esteem/control and spine, for goodness sake!). Oh and BTW, she is cheating on them as well. The rare writing about the job and her interactions with POTUS could be put in a small pamphlet, and then you wouldn't have to suffer through the gratuitous sex (no details, thankfully), the drinking and the general lack of moral code. Most of the book is just "journal writing/self-reflection (never really followed)/therapy" gone bad. Fortunately she doesn't drag Obama into the mire. But I didn't know much more about the White House or POTUS than I already knew. Wish I hadn't paid for such drivel.
The author was at her best when she wrote about her job, especially the travel and the nuts and bolts of what her job involved. Really got sick of the Jason obsession, almost made me quit reading the book. The writing is very good, and parts of the book were excellent.
Wow... what an amazing wordsmith. I found myself going back over paragraphs just for the joy of the prose. Beyond that, I loved the wonderful stories, observations and descriptions about life as a stenographer for the Obama Administration. Reminded me to look up. The author’s insertions about her personal life were candid which made her memoir even more authentic. Highly recommend.

A Duke in Shining Armor Difficult Dukes Loretta Chase 9780062457387 Books

I've read that dukes were the rock stars of the 1800s. The three dukes in this first of Loretta Chase's new series certainly seem to fit that image.

The three live in a drunken haze, brawling with anyone they meet and carousing with widows and married women--which leads to frequent duels. They are immature and arrogant, thriving on elaborate practical jokes which cause discomfort, embarrassment and inconvenience for others.

When bored, the trio goes to an inn in the suburbs where they regularly tear up the place. Unlike the escapades of later rock stars, no guitars are smashed, but everything else is. The landlord allows this behavior because the dukes are fabulously wealthy and pay for their damage. These are heroes? No, these are spoiled little boys who met at Eton as children and refuse to grow up as they turn 30.

Chase's great dialogue carries the weight of the book while one of the dukes falls in love with another's fiancee. It isn't enough.

Readers are asked to believe that Ripley and Olympia don't fall in love in a day or two, but fell in love seven years ago when they first met and just realized their love after seeing each other across crowded ballrooms over the years. I chewed and chewed on that but couldn't swallow it.

Perhaps I could not really enjoy this book because I have loved so many of Chase's books and felt this one didn't measure up. Those new to her work may find more to like in this book. The many real-life instances recently of rich and powerful men feeling entitled to massive disrespect of others may have colored my thinking, too.

A Duke in Shining Armor Difficult Dukes Loretta Chase 9780062457387 Books Reviews

Anytime Loretta Chase has a new book, it will join my collection. I noticed this book has many five starred reviews, but for me it was a 3 star type of read. This is due mostly to the fact that for the first one-third to one-half of the book, the storyline was a bit too slapstickish for my personal taste. The manner in which Olympia escapes along with the ensuing activity didn't appeal to me.

The three dukes - all "badly behaved" characters known as the "Dis-Graces" did seem to have good hearts in many respects. Once Olympia becomes sober, she is much more likeable. I look forward to what I suppose will be the next book in the series. It appears that Chase set up Blackwood's and Alice's unusual marital situation as a lead-in for the next book.
This was a great piece of entertainment, the thing is I never could see how they were going to resolve an impossible situation. The banter was priceless and the story engaging, I did scan maybe a dozen pages at one point because I wanted so badly to see what was going to happen, that was not enough to subtract a star from this wonderful and humorous story.

Olympia is not a shrinking violet and some of the situations were hilarious, this would make sure a great Rom/Com )

The sex was just enough and not slightly more than "closed door" but far from erotic (which I think I prefer in most stories) and since I read it almost non-stop it must have held my attention so 5 Stars for a day of great entertainment and laugh out loud moments.
I didn't like the characters, the plot was ridiculous...really ridiculous, inane. Hard to believe Loretta Chase wrote this, any hack could have produced it.

Over the years, I've come to expect Chase's novels to portray well-drawn characters, at least ONE sympathetic character, a strong, linear plot, witty dialogue, lovely writing. I had to scrap those notions with this effort.

These dukes aren't difficult...they're spoiled-rotten teenagers with the brain cells of gnats.
If there's one HR author I count on to give me a reliably good read, it's Loretta Chase. Well, there's also Meredith Duran, Cecilia Grant (where in the world is she anyway?), Jayne Fresina, Sherry Thomas, and possibly Courtney Milan, but we're talking Chase right now, author of LORD OF SCOUNDRELS, THE HELLION, and many more HRs that I find immensely re-readable.

So, anyway, this new book is first in a series about three badly-behaved young and handsome, rather libertine dukes, known as Their Dis-Graces. In their late 20s, they behave so immaturely that they are not welcome at most social events in the Upper Ten Thousand. Just from the get-go I yawn at this premise. How many times has this been done to death already? And, of course, they all have Daddy Issues, it is hinted at, which have caused them to be the way they are, so we are not required to blame them for their behavior. They womanize, drink too much, get into brawls over nothing, and even have dueling down to a science since they fight so many. Yawn again.

Hugh Ancaster, Duke of Ripley, is recently back from abroad to attend the wedding of good friend and fellow Dis-Grace, Lucius Beckingham, Duke of Ashmont, to Lady Olympia Hightower. Olympia, voted seven times running as Most Boring Girl of the Season, is a failure on the Marriage Mart, and has been pressured by her family to accept Ashmont's unexpected, almost out-of-the-blue marriage proposal. The Hightower family has too many children and not enough money, thanks to a father who has been financially careless, and the influx of ducal funds would be most welcome.

It's not very clear why Ashmont wants to marry Olympia, other than that she is "kind" and not unattractive, in spite of her spectacles, and, unfortunately, he is vague enough in his attentions to her and so often inebriated that, on the day of the wedding, she finds herself in emotional turmoil and inebriated herself. So off she goes escaping out the window before the ceremony is to begin.

Ripley, Ashmont's best man who's in charge of making sure things go smoothly on this day, sets out after her to bring her back, but what ensues is what you'd expect. Some funny "road-trippy" stuff, witty banter, sexual attraction, and the inevitable fall into love.

This is a cute story and it has some really lovely romantic moments once the couple have established that they are in love. I was convinced that it was True Love by the end of the story and there were some warm and fuzzy moments to enjoy, mostly to be found at 75% onward. What failed to convince me was the actual "why" they fell in love. That felt contrived and seemed to happen just because they were in each other's company. It was tiring to read about the state of Ripley's "breeding organs" when in Olympia's vicinity. I'm not 16 anymore. I like a bit more substance to my romances.

Oh, well. I guess cute is okay, but this isn't one of Chase's best stories. Here's hoping for better stories for the two remaining Dis-Graces. I'm especially hopeful for the story of Blackwood and his wife Alice, Ripley's sister. Their marriage doesn't appear to be running smoothly in this book and we must have an HEA for them down the road.

When critics say Confederacy is not true-to-life because it's full of despicable characters; unlikely situations; and plot-holes, I have to wonder what kind of lives they have---because that's a near perfect description of mine.
A Confederacy of Dunces John Kennedy Toole Walker Percy Books Reviews

ACoD was recommended to me by a friend as outstanding, and i dove right in. At first i was all like, huh? But i usually stick with novels i start-- e.g., i bought The Satanic Verses a few years ago, and was pretty unimpressed and not getting it for about the first 100 pages, then i suddenly thought Oh! My! God! and started over; yes, it's a masterpiece, read it if you haven't already-- and ACoD picks up steam fast and is a delight of hilarity and razor sharp social commentary throughout. The ending is perfect.

The Loyola professor who discovered this treasure wrote in the introduction how the mother of John Kennedy Toole contacted and hounded him to read her smeared carbon copy, after Toole was already tragically a suicide. And how he was determined not to read it; and finally, because of her relentless insistence, started it, thinking, OK! i'll read a few pages and then quit, hoping it was not JUST good enough that he'd have to read it all. The rest is literary history, and thank goodness he did read it and get it published.

I started my old worn paperback to reread some time ago, then thought, no, i'm going to try to find this (used) in hardback & do it right. I found it new in an anniversary edition on , and am very happy with the purchase! "A green hunting cap squeezed the top of the fleshy balloon of a head."...
What an amazing book! I had never heard of the book until I saw it on a co-workers desk. Read the story behind the book and was intrigued.
I was hooked from the first page. The book has a great flow to it with great evocative characters and wonderful dialogue. The book was written in 1963 so you have to remember it was a different world then. Helps to know a little about the social and political climate of that time period to put things in Perspective. Yes Ignatius is a jerk, but that's part of the beauty of this book.

I don't understand the negative reviews and the people that say they had to labor through it or couldn't finish it. I could not put this book down.
To me the mark of a great book is when you can't wait to steal away for even just a few minutes to read.
Easily one of the best books I have ever read if not THE best. I'm 54 and an avid reader so that says a lot.
If you’ve heard of this book, but not read it, you’re probably aware of the troubled circumstance of its publication. Several years after having failed to be published, Toole committed suicide. The story of the book would have ended there, except Toole’s mother found the typescript and carted it around to people in the literary community. After much persistence and not taking no for an answer, she managed to get Walker Percy to read the manuscript, and the rest is posthumous Pulitzer Prize winning history.

It would be easy to dismiss the editors involved in rejecting this manuscript as grade-A lunkheads, or as the lead character (Ignatius J. Reilly) likes to verbally skewer his victims “Mongoloids.” However, one can see how said lunkheads would find this much-beloved novel risky. It’s a character-driven novel in which the lead character is obnoxious and unlovable in the extreme. Reilly is a pretentious and pedantic professorial type--verbally speaking-- wrapped into the obese body of a man-child who is emotionally an ill-mannered five year old with a bombastic vocabulary. Reilly has no impulse control, takes no responsibility, and is prone to tantrums, sympathy-seeking dramatic displays, and wanton lies. He’s the worst because he thinks he’s better than everyone despite the fact that in all ways except his acerbic tongue, he’s worse than everyone.

That said, the book—like its unsympathetic lead character—is hilarious through and through. What it lacks in a taught story arc and a theme / moral argument (the latter being why the editor at Simon and Schuster rejected the book after showing initial interest in it) it more than makes up in hilarity.

I should point out that when I say that this isn’t a plot-driven book, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have an interesting wrap-up at the end—which I will not discuss to avoid spoiling it. The plot revolves around events in the life of a lazy man-child forced to go to work. It’s not a journey of change, discovery, or adventure. While, in most cases, a character-driven story with an unmalleable lead would be a recipe for a book that flops, here it keeps one reading to the last page because it’s Ignatius’s failure to become a better man that ensures the book is funny to the end. Reilly is constantly making decisions that are both overly contemplated and yet ill-considered.

The book follows Ignatius Reilly through an event that results in a tremendous loss of money for Ignatius’s mother. This forces her to finally put her foot down and insist the man—who she still thinks of as her little boy—get a job. It should be noted that Ignatius’s mother’s eventual coming around to the monster her son has become is a major driving force in the story—though we can see a distinct lack of taking of responsibility that echoes that of Ignatius, himself. Ignatius gets a fine—if lowly, clerical--job at the slowly-dying Levy Pants Company, but gets fired after he encourages a worker protest that goes awry. He then gets a job as a hotdog cart vendor—a job considered the lowest of the low by both his mother and New Orleans’ society-at-large. The latter is the job he has at the end when a final chain of events unfolds (not without tension and drama, I might add.)

On the theme issue, the Simon & Schuster editor was correct that the book isn’t really about anything except how to muddle through life as a lazy, cranky, emotionally-stunted, and overly-verbose doofus. (But he was oh-so wrong about that being a lethal deficit—according to the Pulitzer Prize committee as well as innumerable readers.)

I’d recommend this for any reader with a sense of humor. You won’t like Ignatius J. Reilly, but you’ll find his antics hilarious, and you’ll want to know what happens to him in the end even if he is irredeemable.
SPOILER WARNING...
Z Plan: Red Tides is the sequel to Z Plan: Blood in the Sand and picks right up where the first story ends. Cale is rescued from death by an Egyptian Navy submarine and then forced with other prisoners to scavenge for the boat and crew; small teams are dispatched to board derelict vessels at sea and also sent ashore to locate survivors (more slaves) and gather needed supplies. These teams are on a timetable and their failure to return by the designated time results in their being left behind. Cale and his partner find themselves out of time and miss their pick-up, now they are stranded on a large container ship full of zombies.

Cale is certain that his wife and child are still alive in the U.S. and does everything in his power to reunite with them. Along the way, there are plenty of zombies and Cale sometimes finds himself in impossible situations - thinking to himself that this is where his life will end. He is also visited periodically by either a ghost or his imagination - Zach was his best friend and fellow squad member in the previous book (killed by Cale when he became infected) and seems to show himself periodically - making observations and offering Cale advice and encouragement to keep him moving in the right direction.

The author also includes chapters following Cale's wife, Lauren, while she and her daughter continue in their own quest to survive in the U.S. She, too, believes that Cale is still alive and uses that to keep herself motivated.

The story has a few slow spots where there is more repetition than action, but all in all, it's a good zombie story!! The ending of Red Tides leaves readers hanging on a cliff...Cale is not home yet, but getting closer! I look forward to Mr. Lema's next installment to see how the series continues.

John Podlaski, author
Cherries - A Vietnam War Novel

Z Plan Red Tides Z Plan Book 2 eBook Mikhail Lerma Reviews

You know a book has got you when you're reading what happens to be the last page and you go "WHAT???" That's what Z-PlanRed Tides did to me. I LOVED this book even more than the first one....and that's saying a lot! When I finished the second book in this series I hadn't yet received Book 3 Z-Plan Homecoming yet and the couple of days I had to wait were horrible! Mikhail Lerma has written a wonderful series that makes you feel for the characters in so many different ways. Without giving away any spoilers, I do have to say I really like the character of Zach, Cale's best friend. He makes me laugh, cry and feel melancholy all at the same time. Cale's struggle to get home to his wife and daughter is so painful to be a part of because you really start feeling deeply for the characters in Mikhail's books. This is one of my favorite ZOMPOC series ever. Just started Book 3 and already hate to put it down. I highly recommend the Z-Plan books. Do you have a Z-Plan, because after reading this I certainly do!
Another fine read by Lerma. Spoiler alert.

Cale was rescued by an Egyptian sub. He's now a prisoner in a cell with other prisoners. His cell mate is a man named Nareem.

Nareen is a giant of a man and he speaks no English but Cale and he get along especially when some of the prisoners in the cell block turn into walkers and the two of them have to kill them to survive.

They have no weapons so booted feet are used. Crush the skulls of the walkers as they try to get through the bars into Cale and Nareems cell.

Cale's rescuers are led by Admiral Samir a man who killed any who opposed him. What's left of the Egyptian Navy is loyal to him and all prisoners are used on supply runs. They are in teams of two with a handler. The handler is the only one armed. The handler is supposed to protect the prisoners as they gather supplies. Of course everywhere they go is loaded with the walking dead. The admiral could care less how many he loses because there are always more survivors out there looking for rescue.

Lt. Amun is head of the prisoners. He decides which ship they are transferred to. He's decided that the American soldier, Cale, will be staying on the sub and used to gather supplies. He knows the American came from Iraq and survived the long journey so that means he's a capable killer and survivor. He will be a boon to the sub and its quest for supplies.

Cale and Nareem are partnered and their handler is fat idiot named Lt. Pashet. Pashet is a fat spoiled brat who's made it into the Navy via his fathers money and influence. Pashet already hates Cale and has taken Zachs knife. A knife Cale will be getting back.

So begins a damned fine read.

This one has Cale, Nareem, Laura, a Laura who is having trouble with a man named Ben, a Ben who murders Andy a good friend of Cale's, a Ben who wants Laura for himself, a Ben those with them thinks of as one nice helpful guy, how wrong they all are, a Laura who wants noting to do with Ben on a romantic level, Marie, Pashet, a run into the city looking for drugs at a hospital, a Pashet who doesn't accompany Cale and Nareem but orders them to find the supplies unarmed while he sits down, a hospital full of walkers, a Cale and Nareem who find the supply room full of drugs, walkers who attack Pashet while he's looting, Cale and Nareem who meet up with Pashet, a Pashet who's to fat to keep up, a Cale and Nareem who make it back to the boat, a Pashet who makes it back and has been bitten, a Pashet who kills a Captain, a Cale who kills Pashet and does indeed get Zachs knife back, a Pashet who won't be missed as he was well hated on the sub, a transport ship with no one on it, all the handlers and those on the supply runs transferred to the ship, a ship loaded with containers, containers filled with walkers, the walkers escaping when the first doors are opened, Cale, Nareem and their handler trying to get off the ship because the sub is going to blow it up, a Cale and Nareem who make it off and use a floating container ship to survive on, a fishing boat that picks them up and transports them to a group of ships that are tied together around a yacht owned by a movie star, a movie star who has drugs and enough supplies to last for years, the Egyptian sub that shows up to confiscate all and make those on the ships into supply runners, a Cale who makes his escape using a speed boat, a Cale who makes it to shore and finds a vehicle, a dog named Delkirk, a Cale who makes it to France and is rescued by soldiers there after overturning his ride, a Cale they are glad to have, a Cale who is promoted to Sgt, Sgt. Blair who wants Cale to lead teams out for supplies, a Cale who really doesn't want to be a leader but does so anyway, a Cale who has Zach in his head, a Zach who helps him make decisions on staying alive, a Blair who lets him know that he has pilots and planes and he and those that want to go will be headed home to America and Cale doing his best to stay alive, take that flight and find his wife and daughter.

Five Stars.
